About

Day by day, with the children of Mozambique.

Who we are

Holistic development since 2015.

Still Standing is a Mozambican initiative dedicated to the holistic development of children and youth, through sport, the arts, environmental education and active citizenship.

We believe every child deserves access, from an early age, to tools that sustain their growth in every dimension: physical, intellectual, emotional, social and cultural. This conviction guides our work and runs through all activities we implement.

Mission

To empower Mozambican children and youth through integrated programmes that bring together sport (with a particular focus on mini-basketball and basketball), performative arts, environmental education and civic formation, nurturing aware and healthy young citizens in harmony with their communities and territory.

Vision

To build a continuous network of learning spaces across Mozambique (in both rural and urban environments) where every child has the chance to discover and grow their potential in a safe, creative and culturally rooted environment.

How we work

Four principles that shape every programme.

01

We see the child as a whole.

We don't separate sport from art, environment from culture, or performance from belonging. Every activity we design integrates physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual components, because human development is not compartmentalised.

02

We always begin with the community.

Each programme is built with (not for) the communities where we work. We involve teachers, local technicians, traditional leaders, individuals from the community, cultural groups and families.

03

We work through partnerships.

We don't work alone. Our programmes exist because individuals, communities and institutions share our vision: community based organisations, schools, and local and international entities.

04

We favour continuity over intermittency.

Where possible, we extend our programmes over time. Where resources don't yet permit a permanent presence, we ensure at least regular cycles and keep alive the bonds we build between interventions.

Where we work

Across the south, centre and north of the country.

Maputo and its urban periphery

Year-round programmes involving several schools, academies and neighbourhood hubs.

Matsequenha and Maputo National Park

In partnership with the Mozambique Wildlife Alliance and the Maputo National Park: bringing activities to children from communities adjacent to these biodiversity hotspots.

Inhambane (Malamba and Mazuene) and Manica (Macossa and Tambara)

In partnership with Associação NATURA, we work in two important biodiversity hotspots: a marine one in Inhambane (Malamba and Mazuene), and a terrestrial one in Manica (Macossa and Tambara).

Niassa Special Reserve

In partnership with the Niassa Carnivore Programme, bringing integrated educational content to the schools of communities inside the Niassa Special Reserve.

Our programmes

Two programmes. One conviction.

Still Standing operates through two main programmes: Joy of Life Niassa, which runs annually inside Niassa Special Reserve; and Opening Doors, an ongoing, multi-faceted programme present in Manica, Inhambane and Maputo Province and City.
